People are pretty poor here, though usually land-rich. This gives the phrase "truckbed" new meaning. Abandoned cars here are used as houses for poor folks. Yet, even though people are poor, crime is rare. I guess that's what comes from living in a small, stable community where you know everyone and people are interdependent. Maybe a role model for planned communities. Anyway, the only "theft" we've had was on Harbor Island. We realized our dinghy was put on the beach at low tide, and were worried it would be gone when we got back, since the tide went up three feet in that time. When we got back, some good samaritan had taken it off the beach and put it up by the road, water jug and air pump still in it.
When we got back in 2 hours, that stuff was gone.
The next day, a guy told us his neighbor took it out because he was afraid it would be stolen. We had to leave, and he was never home before we left. We never did get it back.
At least they meant well... but it still sucked. Cool though that that's the only "crime" we heard of.
