This hyars a mockingbird

Greetings from Eleuthera. This is a mockingbird that was sitting on the pole on the corner of the lot. I could listen to these things all day. They have them in New Orleans too, and Texas. haven't heard em anywhere else, but I'm sure they're around... If you can't get excited about this bird, I don't know what bird you could care about, particularly. These things are amazing.

3-19-10 Nasa, bunch of swearing, falling over backward ina broken chair

I'm drinking vodka and some crazy rum is being passed around with Nathan and Kelvin one night. I guess the highlight here is when I go over backward in my chair while recording the conversation. See kids? That's why you don't drink. Greetings from Eleuthera.

When the bushes is your bathroom, you need all the necessary amenities. Here's my toilet paper holder... It keeps the rain off, homie.

Okay, tell me again. Why aren't we all here?

This is what people resort to when it gets down to around 70 degrees...

The rats in the storage place ate this half a box of powdered milk in one day. Yikes.

some progress

poor man's campfire. BEfore the lot was cleared, I actually sat and watched this candle one night. How lame is that? Now I have a fire pretty much every night though... I sit and plot and plan.

Missing RUth's cooking. Man, I think I'm losing some weight. I ate half a can of black beans for breakfast. Usually I eat one decent meal a day, and some snacks. I honestly just don't care to eat most of the crap I have left in the cooler. I have a few cans of Chunky vegetable soup, which is like potatoes and salty water, a bunch of beans (not chili, just... beans). Not baked even. SOme coffee. Olive oil. Bleh. IT's easy to diet around here. I have some slimfast but the only ones left are "cappucino delite." which sounds great, till you realize that everything that comes out of your body for the next 2 days has that same smell, and quite strong. So it kinda makes you wonder what chemicals are in there. I don't remember real cappucino making the bathroom smell like sugary coffee. I could go get fried fish or something, but it doesn't seem like that much of an improvement. Plus I"m kinda glad to lose the weight. I put on 30 pounds since RUth and I got married...

This was in the water and sewer board on the wall... Indeed, Mama clean too. Mama clean too. She sure clean.

Greetings from Eleuthera.

Proof that our lot is where we say it is. THis was hard won, and very much appreciated...

More good stuff from Brian

Greetings from Eleuthera.

Brian Moore sent me this, I thought it should be up here for you all...

I was just up there yesterday. I was with this cat Walter, who used to live in the caves here. He's now a guide, and was lending me a fishin' pole. I got a 20 pound jack off of Whale Point (about 1/4 mile south of Harbour Island). THen we went to a pig roast, all free because it's a community event, meaning the government pays for people to eat, drink, and be merry, including a dj, free food, booze, etc., all to keep the people interacting. Very proactive idea. I love it. Better than wars for your tax dollar. We're giving the fish away, but I think I'll eat the small one I caught (couple pounds, tops). Walter caught a few others, including a boxfish, which is flat on the bottom, and has paralyzing toxins if it gets bitten by a barracuda or whatever. It totally shuts the barracuda down, instantly. Nice defense.

In the video, the first frames show whale point on the right, then Harbour Island fills the screen and pans to the left, as the pilot flies north. I was down on that really pointy bit on the right across the channel with Walter. WHen they fly along Harbour Island, you can see the first big sandy shallows, right when the photographer starts to zoom in. That's where Ruth and I had our anchor ripped out of the bottom in that windstorm and it sent us flying sideways across the bay, clockin' that other boat. Funny, that recalling a frantic near disaster makes me misty for my wife.

Brian, you're a pilot. You're gonna fly on down here and use this guest house till I build the bigger place, right?

And Brian, you oughta post those drawings you made. I think you have the good ideas kickin...

sort of a long shot
but the guy in the youtube link below flies over to the islands a couple times a year in his own plane
he offers to have riders come along

not a shepherd, nor a fisher of men, but rather a fishherder

Yoyouyouyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoy.
Yo.

things are difficult. I won't go on too long, but let's just say that I had to drive down queen's highway screaming at the topof my lungs for a little bit to let go of some of this frustration.

Ah, bureaucracy.

Ah, the building official who wants a bribe.

The wheels turn slow.

I told Ruth, it's a delicate blend of waiting, bitching, smiling, gladhanding, paying money, thinking, running around, doing cartwheels, complaining, acting gracious, cracking jokes, planning, drawing, problem solving, and then starting over to accomplish every little thing. Just like in the states, I suppose, but the difference this a very small community, very spread out, and I'm on a tight budget with a tight deadline. Things that do not mix well with the Bahamas. WHat's the expression? Price, timeliness, and quality? Pick Two? Pick One? When you pick all three and then want to be hurricane proof on top of it, it's a juggling act.

I will shut up. I just vented to RUth on SKype (got my headset, but I don't like the phone, and am never on the computer, so don't worry about calling me. Post on here instead, if you're in the mood...) for a good little bit.

The library will close in a few. I will write or post for a minute till then.

Selling the truck to get loot. Selling the generator. GOt electricity. Got a new guy to dig holes (cheaper). Have to bribe the building inspector. Other guy in the office very cool, cheap, fair, and affordable. HIs boss is the one who's a prick. Miss you all. Some of you lots. Cash? You reading this? Getting the stuff we sent from customs. Trailer was a massive amount to send, being held in Ft. Lauderdale. Can't afford to send the steel building. Being held in Ft. Lauderdale.

Brian posted some great ideas to me in an email about design. Maybe you should put them up here, bro. It affects all of us...

Think I know who are the bad seeds. 2 counting the building inspector. But everyone has a dog in this fight, and most people have a wish list for how this is done, what should be done, what they'll let me do, what they want me to do before I can do it, and multiply that by 36and 7/8 and divide by the cotangent of the atomic symbol for carbon and drink it in a graveyard at midnight after you catch the right people on the right day, and you might get all these stars to line up.

But check this: I'm close. I'm waiting on the rainbow bay people (who should be back to me in 48 hours or so and 90% sure it's a go with them) and the guy who wants a bribe (90% sure he's down, the bribe was his idea) and then I'm off to the races.

I am herding fishes with a stick in open water. The herd is running willy nilly hither and yon, but getting smaller and smaller, and soon I will have them all so close I can put them in a pile and then pull them into the boat and clobber the lot of 'em over the head with a shovel. Then I will make a building of their stinking corpses.

The latest idea: the plan ( think as i posted it before, but I'll double check that), but in the meantime, a guest house. One bedroom. With 2 doors, a bath, a sink, kitchen, etc. You should already have a key. I will tell you when it's done.

Christine Webster saved the day by closing on our house in Kalamazoo for us. Why? Because she's a badass. IF you didn't know this, you must introduce yourself. A serious badass. You can smell that spirit a block off when you're upwind. Christina: THANK YOU. We are proud to be your neighbors, and look forward to helping bring down your property values.

As far as that house goes, it will have at least one guest room, we think, that will be a revolving door for you weirdos, who are all welcome, all the time. We hope you will be there. We can't possibly drink all the beer we plan to purchase by ourselves. And yes, I'll get on that deck right away. Christina, you have any interest in submitting a building permit application for me?

You all rule. We rule. This rules. The idea of getting a builing done and getting you guys here and sharing it with you and showing you around? ABSOLUTELY THRILLING. The library, shesa close. Photo next time.
Lotsa love. Jackola

hey joe- your tag's showing, bro. boat's here. this is a poor man's depth gauge for finding out how deep we dug into the hill... These bite. Watch out, now! This is actually the guidebook for how to set up the steel building, but just the same, it's best if you avert your eyes, kids. Greetings from Eleuthera.
